Variegated Japanese Sweet Flag

Acorus Calamus 'Variegatus'

Variegated Sweet Flag is showy and versatile in the garden, making a terrific foliage accent in water gardens or around ponds that can slowly grow to form a dense ground cover. It is a tough plant, native to pond margins, so is generally low maintenance and easily grows in boggy conditions, thriving in medium to wet soils. Acorus resent drying out and will produce brown tips and burnt foliage - do not let your soil dry out. The calamus variegatus enjoy full sun to part shade conditions provided they are sufficiently watered, but appreciate afternoon shade in hot summer conditions. Acorus are grown primarily for their bright, cheery evergreen foliage. Acorus calamus is a variegated variety of the native that boasts larger flower spikes and taller leaves than the Acorus gramineus. The plant boasts green & cream striped reed/grass-like leaves that have an unusually sweet fragrance when bruised.
